This is the most recent area to be developed in the Calabogie region, and features a unique wall of horizontal banding that provides some interesting and unique climbing for the area. The entire ridge features a number of sections of climbable rock only 2 of which have been developed so far.
The cliff faces south east and gets sun all morning and for most of the afternoon. It currently has 27 established routes, both sport and trad, ranging from 5.8 to 5.12, with most being 5.10 and 5.11.
Some boulder problems have also been established on some boulders on the east end of the ridge.
Guide
All of the routes are documented on the Crag.
None of the boulder problems have been publicly documented yet.
Location
This area is located south-west of Norcan Lake, accessed by driving south on Norcan Lake lane, then branching right onto West Norcan Lake road. The drive is approximately 35 km from the town of Calabogie and takes around 45 minutes from there.
West Norcan Lake road is a forest access gravel road that is currently in great condition, as it has been resurfaced throughout 2025. It does have occasional logging and ATV use, so please drive with caution. It is not plowed in the winter, and is closed to road vehicle traffic once it is groomed as a snowmobile trail. As a result of this, it also takes longer to melt out in the spring due to the compacted snow.
The parking pullouts near the trailhead can easily accommodate at least 8 vehicles. Note that Google Maps does not have updated information on West Norcan Lake Road, so it does not know how to drive all the way to the trailhead.
Climbing Approach
From the parking pullout walk down the hill towards the culverts and pick up a fairly well established approach trail occasionally marked with orange flagging tape. The trailhead is marked with a small wooden climber sign.
The approach to the climbing is 1km and should take around 20 minutes.
Bouldering Approach
To get to the boulders, follow the climbing approach trail for approximately 100 meters and look out for a trail that heads left down a hill, flagged with orange flagging tape. The boulders are about 250 meters from the road, and the approach should take around 5 minutes.
