This is a small area, great for spending a chill day away from the crowds. It’s also a great place to get acquainted with climbing outside. The boulders are relatively small, with good landings, and the routes are well protected and on the easier end of the grade scale. It also sits on the shore of a beautiful lake with great swimming potential.
The area features around 20 boulder problems and 9 sport and trad routes.
Guide
Most of the boulder problems and routes are documented on the Crag.
Location
Battery Lake is located on the south side of the Madawaska River, just upstream of Calabogie Lake. It is accessed via a small grassy staging area just off Barry Lake Trail road. The staging area can accommodate parking for many vehicles.

Approach
The approach is an easy 10 minute walk from the parking area.
From the staging area, the simplest approach is to continue west on the rough ATV trail for 500 meters until it reaches the outlet of the lake. From here, cut left and pick up a trail to the lake. The boulders and cliff will be on your left after you reach the lake.
Alternatively, if you head south west from the staging area into the woods, you should stumble upon an an old trail that skirts the top of the slopes along north shore of the lake. If you follow this west, it will eventually take you to the boulders and cliff.
