Crag Care was founded in 2020 to help protect, develop, and maintain the climbing areas around Calabogie. In addition to raising funds to support local route development and trail maintenance, Crag Care also organizes events to foster the local climbing community and encourage good stewardship.
Events
Every fall, usually around the last weekend of September, Crag Care hosts the ‘Bogie Boulder Bash, a fun of day of bouldering and climbing at Otter Pond and Eagle’s Nest. The day includes informal bouldering, lead and speed climbing competitions, a garbage cleanup of the local trails, fresh baked goods and prizes donated by local businesses.
In early spring Crag Care hosts Local Legends, a fun night where local climbers share their stories of climbing both locally and around the world.

Donations
Crag Care raises money to help offset the costs of local route development and trail maintenance. The Calabogie region is lucky to have a large group of local developers passionate about cleaning and equipping new routes, and developing new boulder problems. Historically, these developers have funded this development themselves, which quickly gets very expensive. The average cost to equip a sport climbing route with bolts and anchors is $100.
Crag Care aims to relieve some of the financial burden from these developers so they can continue to develop new climbs for us to enjoy. Over the last several years, Crag Care has raised enough money to help equip over 30 new sport and trad routes in the area, and build a much needed bridge on the approach trail to Otter Pond.
